Around the grounds this week:
The 2nd XI keeping in touch with the top 4 with a 20-run win over last year's premiers Taradale. Makes a massive difference batting the full 40 overs. A 61-run 8th Wicket partnership between Noah Hadden 50 no and Will Trew 13 playing a huge part in the win and ensuring we batted the full 40 overs. A good all-round performance by Michael Rogers 23 and 2/25 also important.
The 3rd XI compiling a massive 4/336 off 60 overs against Bendigo at Bake Mate Junior Oval. Jhak Burke from the Under 14's continued his outstanding season with 79 and combined with the Captain on his last legs with 101 retired in another 100+ run partnership between the two. Justin Lange also chipping in with a 52 not out in his first half century in 20 years. Evan Ralphs also joined his son Tarkyn at the top of the order in their first game together in a great memory for the Ralphs family.
The Under 14's remain unbeaten after 6 games in both their Saturday competition and mid-week 20/20 games. In the 20/20 they defeated Golden Square after 7.2 overs and by 8 wickets. The 2-day game was scheduled to a Saturday/Sunday game, that after the wet weather was another 20/20 on Sunday. It was another victory against the Square by 57 runs with Ethan Van Den Aarsen making 30 retired and taking 1/4 the star for the cubs.
The Under 16's had a commanding victory against rivals Strathfieldsaye. Chasing 174 the Lions made 7/236. The game was never in doubt with the early batting of Astin Clayton 51 retired and Zac Cavalier 23 retired. Connor Berry lifted the run rate with 26. Nash James with some scintillating cover drives in his 56 not out and Josh Bellenger 20 finished the game off in style.
The Under 12 Division 1 and Division 2 were washed out on Saturday morning.
The Men's 1st XI had the game in control at 2-154 off 48 overs chasing the Newstead total of 252. Even at 3/177 the oppositions heads were down. The loss then of 7/27 was a disappointing way to end the game. Dean Trew 81 continued his sparkling form and was well supported by Brett Haw with 44.
Our All-Abilities team finally got onto the ground for their second game after wet weather and other circumstances. The President umpired the game and was extremely impressed by the standard of play as the Lions took on the North Shore Seagulls at Bake Mate Senior Oval on the turf. Off our 30 overs the Lions made 4/154 in an even team effort. Peter Tie 27 no, Damen Nowell 25, Steve Ingram 25, Mitch Lawrence 24 no and Tyla Brereton 23. The accurate bowling kept the Seagulls well behind the required run rate with Zachary Taig 2/17 the best of the bowlers and restricting them to 7/104. There is more on this game on Facebook with a thorough write-up and photos.
At the time of this story going live we are still awaiting final scores in the Division 3 All-abilities games between the two Maiden Gully Marist teams.
Firstly, is a look at the scores and some of the performers with the stats in these games:

Each week we will be doing a team of the week for the club. Note the junior scores and their restricted number of balls faced and overs is taken into consideration when picking the team of the week. Many teams batted this week and lots of big scores. Finding bowlers was difficult with the Under 12's also washed out.
