Teams for the 1st XI and 2nd XI and a look at all games, including the 3rds.
The 1st XI is at Bake Mate Senior Oval Marist. They take on Guildford who although on the bottom of the ladder are laden with experience and improved form in recent weeks. The Gully has their most inexperienced 1st XI team in the history of the club with a number of players out. The side includes six Under 16 players with Aussie Coghill adding to the list of junior players making their debut. Congrats Aussie. This will be an extremely tough challenge for the team, and a side selected that shows the club is in transition or re-build stage. Partnerships and hanging onto the catches will the key. If the accurate bowling of Adil Ali, Brett Haw, Nathan Cavalier and Mitch Lawrence can be supported with a consistent line and length from Jimmy Liersch, Evan Lindsay and Zac Cavalier we have a strong chance if we can also bat the full 75 overs.
We will have a further story in the coming week with the final A Grade game last week of club stalwart Dallas Gill, as he and Nadine prepare for their lives in the Northern Territory.
The 2nd XI makes another away trip down to Camp Reserve to face Castlemaine United in A Reserve. Another must win game with the opposition equal on the ladder, and the Lions one game outside the top 4. Max Dorrington, Luke Warren and Ricky Felsenthal make their A Reserve debut. Jake Medhurst adds a lot to the bowling with his return to the club. The side still has a great deal of experience with Steve Burleigh, Marc Brownlee and Mick Rogers, together with the exciting Noah Hadden and Luke Warren. Even with a number of changes from their winning side last week, this team will be hard to beat if they bat their full 40 overs with some hard hitters in this team.
The 3rd XI belted 4/336 against Bendigo in week 1 as they set out to bowl out the opposition in week 2. The opposition have some very experienced players and against our attack, which is almost entirely Under 14 and 16 players, it will be a test for the young side. Hayden Lange and Rrig Sharma will take the new ball and with their big outswingers will be looking to find an early edge. Austin Phillips and Ethan Van Der Aarsen on debut have been bowling well at training and in juniors and should step up. With the support of Aaron Foy, Mat Mitchell, Justin Lange, Tarkyn Ralphs and Jhak Burke they will be looking to take the 10 wickets, which the team need to do more frequently to improve.
Good luck to all teams this week
