With one game from time to time we'll have a deeper look into the contest. This week that one game is the U12 Div 1 where the President bit off all his fingernails in an exciting finish.
The game finish for this Under 12 team resulted in 2 tied games in consecutive weeks. The Australian test team has had 2 ties in 150 years, yet these boys and girls have done this in consecutive weeks. Superstars!
The Under 12's bowled first and restricted Kangaroo Flat to 6/78 off their 20 overs. Stats wise the stars with the ball were Sebastian Burleigh 2/3, Noah Bysouth 1/3 and Airlie Swanton 1/10. Nash Ryan was brilliant in the field taking 2 catches and also getting a run out.
Before we get started on our batting, in the Under 12 team, the team rule is retire after 12 balls and then come back in once every batter has been at the crease or got out.
The captain Sebastian Burleigh got his team off to a fast start making 12 off 11 balls before getting bowled. At the other end Airlie Swanton was looking rock solid and returning to the crease after retiring the first time made 7 runs without being dismissed. A boundary from Airlie late in the innings kept the team in the game.
Nash Ryan 8, Noah Bysouth 6 no, Archer Rielley (very good technique) 4 no, Harry McIntyre 4, Mitchell Dixon 6, Archer Shanahan 6, Alfie Healey 1 all contributed to the scoreboard. Harry Lowe and Oscar Pepper got some very good balls this week and sure some scores are just around the corner for them. Extras 24 were also a good contributor to our total.
The Under 12's were on 62 runs with 3 overs to go, needing 17 runs off 18 balls. That is a tall order in Under 12. We chipped away with some good running between the wickets and Nash Ryan and Noah Bysouth at the crease we needed two runs to tie off the last ball and three to win. Nash hit the ball to mid-on and with both boys sprinting between the wicket, just made the ground for one as the throw by the mid-on fielder missed the stumps and an overthrow resulted. Nash and Noah then scrambled the two runs to tie and trying to get a third run Nash was run out. A tie, a great game of cricket between the two teams, and for our Under 12 Div 1 team, two ties in two weeks. Well done boys and girls!
The Under 12 Division 2 team after losing narrowly by two runs in round 1, had their first win chasing down the Kangaroo Flat total of 60 runs with 40 balls to spare in a convincing victory.
The Under 14's are in a strong position after day 1 of their 2-day game. In the Under 14's each team bats for 20 overs on week 1 and then again in week 2. Strathdale Maristians are 5/57 against our 1/78. The result is far from over with Maristians best bat at the crease and has 25 off 26 balls.
The Under 16's did not play last Wednesday due to the Bendigo Cup Day Holiday.
To the Melbourne All-Abilities Cricket Association and our Division 1 side had their first game. We were all out for 119 before Mt Waverley Uniting replied with 4/120.
The All-Abilities Division 3 Maiden Gully Marist Maroon team scored a healthy 6/98 off their 11 overs but Seddon were a little too good making 2/124. We are yet to get the scores for our Gold team against Westy Warriors.
To our senior men's teams and the 1st XI had a narrow loss. The reigning premiers Castlemaine United reaching our total of 8/178 from 40 overs in the last over and 7 wickets down.
The 2nd XI played North Castlemaine and were all out for 154 in over 38 and not batting out their 40 overs. North Castlemaine reaching the total after 30 overs and reaching 5/155.
The 3rd XI lost the toss and need to chase down 7/280 off 60 overs in week 2. They had the opposition in trouble at 5/88 after 30 overs before some experienced players whacked the ball around the rec reserve.
Each week we will be doing a team of the week for the club. Note the junior scores and their restricted number of balls faced and overs is taken into consideration when picking the team of the week.
