The highlights for selections this week is Connor Berry and Zac Cavalier making their A Grade debuts to play the reigning premiers Castlemaine United at Bake Mate Senior Oval (Marist).
Connor making scores of 77 and 28 in the 2's to earn the call up and being another of our Under 16 players to play in the A grade this season.
Coach Adil Ali and Chairperson of Selectors Dean Trew, then added another of the Under 16's by bringing up leg spinner Zac Cavalier from the thirds after a good all round performance against Golden Square. In the second last round before winning the grand final, the opposition struggled against the leg spin of Adil who bowled 25 overs taking 3/25 . The author cannot recall the club ever playing two leg spinners in our top grade, and we wish both Connor and Zac the best on their first grade debut.
The 2nd's look to have their strongest side on paper for the season with a reinforced bowling line-up. Noah Hadden and Jonty Cavalier coming back from the one's will be raring to go with the ball and reduce the large totals from the first two games of the season against our 2's. Marc Brownlee will make the batting stronger for his first game this season and with Brodie Hogan and Steve Burleigh in form, will be looking to challenge the third placed North Castlemaine down at the Wesley Hill turf.
The 3rds also have two Under 16's on their senior debut, with one of the heroes of last years U14 grand final in Tarkyn Ralphs set to open the batting. Newcomer to the club Andrew Cameron also plays his first senior game. After close losses against two of last years finalists, the team plays another finalist of last season in Eaglehawk and will be looking for a win against one of the big scalps of the competition. Allrounder Mick Rogers coming back from the 2's is a big inclusion and the bowling of Nash James and Hayden Lange will be critical to the result.
We wish all teams all the best.
Everyone don't forget the pizza night at the Marist social rooms after games on Saturday 8 November.
